What is Somatic Sexology and Sexological Bodywork?

Somatic Sexology, also known as Sexological Bodywork or Somatic Sex Education, bridges the body-centered practice of Somatics with the study of human sexuality. We view eroticism and the diverse aspects of human sexual behavior through the lens of embodiment, for a more “bottom up approach” as opposed to traditional forms of therapy which often approaches sexuality from a “top down” or cognitive approach. As Somatic Sexologists, we support adults in cultivating self-connection, confidence, and autonomy through body-centric experiences, fostering internal awareness and connection. By combining practices like touch, breath, sound, and movement with trauma-informed approaches from somatics and neuroscience, we help individuals increase their capacity for intimacy, self-awareness, pleasure, and joy. This holistic, bottom-up approach fills in the gaps left by more traditional psychological methods by addressing the body and nervous system directly.

In this work, boundaries and consent are foundational. Through tools like "somatic inquiry," clients learn to trust themselves, communicate their needs clearly, and explore stories or challenges that may limit their sexual expression. By rewriting the body’s felt experiences and creating new neural pathways, Somatic Sexology helps individuals move beyond repetitive patterns and expand their ability to fully experience pleasure in its many forms. We integrate touch, breathwork, movement, and mindfulness to support individuals in exploring their sexual identity, releasing trauma, and cultivating a deeper connection to their bodies. Guiding you through somatic experiences to enhance sexual well-being, develop new patterns of pleasure, and foster a healthy relationship with the body, while adhering to trauma-informed and consent-based principles.

What does a session look like?

A Somatic Sexology or Sexological Bodywork session is always client-centered and specifically tailored to meet your individual needs, desires, and goals. We start with an in-depth history and assessment, giving us time to connect and attune to each other’s energy. This initial session does not involve any physical touch. Instead, we’ll focus on gaining clarity around your goals and desires, and I’ll share how our work together can support you in reaching them, creating a personalized roadmap for your journey. At the beginning of each session, you and I will co-create a learning objective that guides the purpose and structure of the session. This may include a combination of coaching, embodiment practices, and bodywork, all focused on somatic awareness and healing. The approach is trauma-informed, ensuring you feel safe enough to fully notice and explore what you're feeling, while also learning to trust your body’s inner wisdom and communicate authentically.

Throughout the session, you are empowered to explore your intimate self-expression with confidence and clarity. Active, enthusiastic consent is central to every interaction, ensuring your boundaries are honored and the process supports your personal growth, healing, and transformation. Sessions always adhere to the ASIS and ACSB code of ethics, along with hygiene protocols, to maintain the highest standards of professionalism and care. The goal is to provide a safe, supportive environment for exploring your erotic self-awareness and expanding into deeper levels of personal empowerment and healing.
